About
UMI CONGREGATION
The Congregation of the “Ursulines of Mary Immaculate” (UMI) was founded by Blessed Brigida Morello of Jesus in 1649 at Piacenza, in Northern Italy under the patronage of St. Ursula, after whom the Institute is named.
Brigida was a prophet of her times as she responded to the needs of an age where materialism and power had influenced even the Christian doctrine and faith adversely. In 1934, a band of missionaries from Italy came to India and started the missionary activities in different parts of India. The Congregation embraces various humanitarian services in hospitals, dispensaries, convalescent centre, wellness centre, creches, boarding and hostels, home for the aged, destitute home, primary and secondary schools and junior colleges. Today we render our services in Italy, India, Brazil, Africa, UK and Ireland.
Nirmala Home for the Aged-Nashik, Maharashtra is established on 2nd March 1975, by the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate, of the Sacred Heart Province- Bangalore. It is mainly for the retired senior citizens who long for a quiet and peaceful ambience.
